Aargh, Birders, It's Talk Like a Pirate Day!

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is a silly holiday that's been celebrated each September 19 since the mid 1990s. Take the time today to play along by adding pirate talk to your regular speech. Are you going birding? Here are some ideas to share out in the field.

  • Avast! There's a snake on the path, let's go around
  • Come here, me hearties, and look at the eagle nest through my scope.
  • I saw a lot of birds on New Year's Day; I added a lot of booty to my year list.
  • Did you bring extra doubloons to give to your carpool driver?
  • Let's sing a shanty to accompany our life bird joy.
  • I don't trust that scallywag, she's a stringer!
  • Shiver me timbers! Is that a Golden Eagle flying overhead?
  • I'm going to go around and try to flush the bird, savvy?
